Rauf Aregbesola, the Governor of Osun State has been lauded by indigenes of the state for driving himself to work.
According to an Instagram user @itsdolapojulius, Governor Rauf Aregbesola who is preparing to round off his tenure, insisted on driving himself to the office yesterday evening. His post reads;
SUN DOWN, MAN IN POWER
He insisted on driving himself to the office yesterday evening lest he gets rusty on the wheel. Lol.
This follows up report of Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Prof. Sunday Taiwo, appealing to the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and his Osun State counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola, to pay the arrears of the subventions of their states to the university in order to avoid a strike action.
Taiwo made the appeal in his speech at the induction of 67 newly qualified medical laboratory scientists in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday.
The appeal came just a day after the school’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities threatened to embark on another round of strike over failure of the state governments to pay them for 10 months.
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola had also revealed that he has not received a salary since he assumed office. He said he does not deserve to earn a salary given that he enjoys free accommodation, free transportation and free health care while the senior civil servants in the state have not been paid full salaries since 2016.
Aregbesola disclosed this on Twitter in response to a tweet by a user S. O. AbdulRahman, who expressed disbelief over the governor’s statement on a live Television show.
“…However @raufaregbesola says he’s not received salary as a State Governor since inception.
I want to believe I didn’t hear well.
I need some assistance here
What? I’m at loss!”, the AbdulRahman said.
In his response, Aregbesola confirmed that he made the statement and that it is the truth.
The Governor said, “Dear AbdulRahman,
You heard me correctly. I have not earned a dime in salary as Governor of Osun. I enjoy free accommodation, free transportation and free health care. What is the justification for earning a salary still?”.
